PISA Results - an Urgent Challenge for Thai School Principals

Sukarna Chakma

Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) test results for 2012 were announced on 2nd December, 2013 and in all three subjects; mathematics, science and reading comprehension Thailand’s rank was 50th out of 65 countries.  The average points of PISA 2012 for Thailand were higher than 2009 PISA points but still lower than the average point of OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) in all three subjects. The results indicate that the quality of education in Thai schools needs to be improved. It has put the onus and challenge on school principals in particular and other education leaders, in general, to show effective instructional leadership to enhance learning and bring student achievements to cope with globalized education.

The paper was published in Sripatum Chonburi Journal in 2015.
