About Chonburi EEC

Sripatum University at Chonburi (SPUC) in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)

The university is located at a strategic point in the eastern region. Chonburi is home to Thailand's largest tourist oriented city, Pattaya (also spelled Phatthaya), it is the only province outside the Bangkok Metropolitan Area to connect by an eight-lane motorway to Bangkok, 80 km distant. It is home to Thailand's largest and primary seaport, it has a thriving migrant and expatriate population. Chonburi is the industrial zone for the transportation, logistics and tourism industry. Known as the Eastern Seaboard, it offers promising opportunities to secure new graduates with prospective workplaces.

Sripatum University at Chonburi is favored to be situated in Chon Buri being the seat of the Eastern Economic Corridor. A few distance away from the university is Amata Nakhon Industrial Estate. Some fifty kilometers on the south is Laemchabang Port.

The Eastern Economic Corridor is the enhancement of the former Eastern Seaboard that had been the region’s powerhouse for manufacturing and trade for over thirty years. From the “Detroit of the East” to the manufacturing paradise of Asia, the EEC consists of the three Eastern provinces Rayong, Chonburi, and Chachoengsao with a combined area of 13,285 square kilometers. The Eastern Economic Corridor will see investments of US$ 43 billion during the next five years, mostly through foreign direct investments.

The EEC will be linked by the planned high-speed railway lines to the three international airports Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, and U-Tapao. Double-track-railway lines will connect Thailand’s industrial zones with the deep sea ports Laem Chabang, Map Ta Phut, and Sattahip. The motorway between Bangkok and Rayong will be extended. The economic plan is expected to create 100,000 jobs a year in the manufacturing and service industries by 2020.

        Regional Connectivity

Chonburi boasts of having the geographical advantage in terms of connectivity. It is the center of East-West Economic Corridor and North- South Economic Corridor. It is also close to Indian and Pacific Ocean, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam and South China. Chonburi is almost60 Km away from Bangkok, more or less 40 Km from Suvarnabhumi International Airport and about 50 Km from Laem Chabang Deep Sea Port.

         Industrial Estates

Sriracha is an industrial zone found in Thailand. It has some manufacturing industries as well as shipping industries, supported by the port of Laem Chabang, counted among top 20 the largest in the world. As this district is surrounded by Chonburi, Pattaya and Laem Chabang, it is a kind of convenient for transportation. Popularity, especially workers, in this district becomes more and more due to Eastern Seaboard Development Project, which is considered as the second fastest growing zones in Thailand in terms of wealth and population.  With strong industrial infrastructure and a very large shipping port, Sriracha become economic zone and major hub for import-export in Thailand

          Tourism

There has been heavy investment in the tourist city of Pattaya, the nation's primary port of Laem Chabang (at Sri Ratcha), the Bangkok-Pattaya motorway, and Suvarnabhumi airport (outside but close to the province). Pattaya is the destination of local and international tourism alike within the province, which has seen a spike in skyscrapers and malls. The nationality of visitors to Pattaya and environs has been changing, with a surge of Chinese in the past five years, as well as migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, as opposed to being formerly dominated by Westerners and Thais. Besides Pattaya, neighboring cities such as Banglamung, Sri Ratcha, and even Muang Chonburi itself have developed over the past decade supporting a larger middle class and a "long-stay" expat population
